Nestled among the breathtaking scenery of the snow laden spruce and frozen alpine lakes of the Grand Mesa, Thunder Mountain Lodge is a nordic destination like no other.
Situated above 10,000 feet and averaging 33 feet of snowfall per season there are very few places on the Mesa that are unskiable and yet even fewer adventurers willing to track it up.
In addition to the endless acres of snowy forest, the lodge is mere feet from the Grand Mesa Nordic Council’s trail system. The GMNC, a donation based organization, maintains over 54 kilometers of groomed, marked backcountry, and snowshoe trails all wholly contained within nonmotorized zones. The trails not only challenge nearly all skier types, but they also offer stunning views of the many peaks and valleys that dot the Mesa.
Once exhaustion sets in, ski in and retire to one of the many cozy cabins at Thunder Mountain Lodge. With a variety of configurations a single cabin can accommodate anywhere from a solo norseman to group of eight explorers.
All of the cabins come equipped with a full kitchen, including a full size refrigerator, an oven, modern nonstick cookware, a coffee maker, a toaster and a microwave. Additional amenities include a communal fire pit and deluxe grilling pavilion for those who want to unwind alfresco.
Upon awakening refreshed and ready to tackle the frequent overnight fresh snow and a new trail, don’t forget to stop by the gourmet coffee counter for a fresh ground espresso, americano, or hot cocoa.
Thunder Mountain Lodge. Uncrowded, Untracked, Unbelievable.
